1. Ship's flag.
Ships under the flag of Ukraine or Russia pass Kerch Strait on their own, the Strait
duty being paid directly by the ship-owner to the administration of the port of Kerch.
For vessels under a foreign flag, the aforementioned duty is OBLIGATORILY only and solely
payable via an agent.
2. Pilotage over Azov Sea
For foreign flag vessels, pilotage over the return trip between Kerch and Berdyansk is MANDATORY.
3. Ship's technical characteristics
Due to certain design singularities, a number of discounts and advantageous tariffs
could be applied, for instance, a preferential tariff will be used in port charges
provided the ship has a maneuvering propulsion device and the latter is employed at mooring.
4. Type of cargo
A smaller rate of agent's remuneration will apply to vessels with loading cargo
than those with general cargo, and still smaller rates will apply to tankers. Also,
other expenses are possible related to insuring the ship in the event the cargo
on board falls under the 'dangerous' category under the International Maritime Organization
(IMO) classification.
5. Previous port or destination
To ships calling consecutively at a number of Ukrainian ports within the same passage to load/unload
cargo reduced rates of port charges will apply.
6. Weather conditions
Icy winter conditions may necessitate extra expenses for the use of icebreakers and ice piloting.
7. Time of entry into port
Whenever a vessel is entering a port at a weekend or at nighttime, larger tariffs
(overtime) will apply, which results in higher port charges.
